New South Street Pedestrian Bridge Extension to Connect Philly to the Waterfront
Significant changes are coming to the Philadelphia Waterfront, and we couldn’t be more excited!
Construction is set to begin in Summer 2026 on the highly anticipated South Street Pedestrian Bridge extension over Columbus Boulevard, creating a much-needed, direct, and scenic path from the city to the river.
This long-awaited project will make it easier than ever to access the Delaware River Waterfront’s most popular destinations, including the Delaware River Trail, Spruce Street Harbor Park, Cherry Street Pier, and the future Park at Penn’s Landing. Whether you’re commuting by bike, strolling with family, or heading to one of our year-round festivals, this new bridge will offer a beautiful, safe, and convenient way to get to the action.
The bridge is expected to open to the public in 2027, just in time to welcome thousands of new visitors to the Waterfront. Get a sneak peek at the just-released renderings and learn more about the installation process in the latest PhillyVoice article.
